Eight teams competed this week. My team, Eclectic Boogaloo, won $80 after a tiebreaker round.
The scoring is a little complicated -- most questions are worth 2 points, but there was a bonus worth as much as 10 points. It doesn't take too long to figure it out, though.
One unusual feature: at the end of the main round (45 questions, at least last night), each team can get special hints from Billy (the quiz host) about three questions. It gave us two correct answers we wouldn't have gotten otherwise. And he does this privately, so you can't benefit from other teams' asking.
A high percentage of multiple choice questions.
Be sure to sit towards the front of the pub. Not everyone is playing the quiz, so there's some talking, and the sound system is not very good. The closer you are to the working speaker, the easier time you'll have playing.
The food is very good -- easily the best I've had (well, seen) at a quiz pub aside from The Jones, which is a full-fledged restaurant. And they've got Magner's cider on tap. Bonus!
Warning: some of the questions are, um, wrong. Case in point: possible answers for "most popular name given to baby boys in 2003" were Justin, Joe, James, or Jack. "Correct" answer was Jack; real-world answer, per the Social Security Admin, is Jacob; both James and Justin were more popular than Jack that year. So at least some of your performance will end up being luck.
We'll go back, though. It's a nice pub, the host is very friendly, and the quiz moves at a good pace.
